At Street Level 301

Gilbert Bonilla Cold Case. It was in 2004 that I started looking into Gilbert Bonilla's Homicide from 1985. From the first time we got a copy of his autopsy report, I knew we had a shot because Dr. Daniel Thomas's autopsy contradicted Sgt. George Pabey's version of the shooting.10-31-85 Halloween Night. "No evidence of a close-range shooting." It was the father, Angel Bonilla, who also brought in Dr. Kirschner, a pathologist from Chicago whose autopsy also came to the same conclusion of no proof of a close-range shooting as Sgt. Pabey alleged in his statement to I.S.P. But the biggest break came when retired FBI Agent Mark Becker was brought, and Mayor Copeland appointed the new Chief of E.C.P.D. "Straight Shooter," was how people described him. Street had heard that #85-18660 Police Report had been tampered with. Thus, I talked with Chief Becker about this scenario, & he agreed to eyeball #85-18660. It was a month later, & he told me "It's been played with.” Then he sent #85-18660 to Quantico Lab for testing etc. Then Chief Becker moved on with #85-18660 in limbo @ Quantico. Street was frustrated & somewhat tired now in the year 2017. But it wasn't until a couple of years ago that my mind turned to Google. Right then & there I found the phone number for Quantico Lab(703-632-8360)& decided to cold call them. With the luck of the Irish, there was no "flag", & was talking to a gal in the lab. "I'm calling from East Chicago, Indiana regarding #85-18660 Police Report from Gilbert Bonilla Homicide that was sent to your lab," Street told the gal. "Who's the contributor?” She asked me. "Excuse me?" She caught me off guard with that one. "Who sent the police report?" She told me, and we were in the game. "Chief Mark Becker of East Chicago P.D." And now it was official." Gilbert Bonilla is the name of the homicide victim." This was me breaking it down. She told me to call back next week. But the following week, there was a "flag" when I answered the phone. “What law enforcement agency are you with? “She asked me, and the wheel came off the Caddy. Street just shook his head and sucked it up. We fast forward and on television, there is Michelle Obama @ Democratic National Convention. "If you see something do something" She brought the house down. This coupled with an article in The Times about Lake County Prosecutors Office working on Cold Cases & Bernie Carter even gave out a phone number to call. Street called up and talked to a detective about the evidence I had on Gilbert Bonilla's Homicide etc. Even dropped off the two autopsies StreetWise had @ the civil office of the Sheriff's Office on Main St. in Indiana Harbor. Been about two weeks and haven't received a phone call back from this detective. An idealistic guy from 3529  Block Ave. is biting his tongue. "Maybe people see something and do something, but nothing happens"(from the streets.blogspot.com)Ricardo “StreeWise” Moreno.
