At
Street Level. Street was standing in front of Copeland's crib on 140th
between Deodor & Elm, slugging on some MGD's. Street wanted to meet with
him because Don Cooley had just told me, "King Kong was going down from a
small virus." Street had to call Mayor Pabey, King Kong, to try &
motivate Cooley. "King Kong said you guys aren't gonna bust a grape in a
wine factory," Street laid it on thick. And now Street had just dropped it
on Copeland, who only looked at me. "Oh, yeah?" Copeland probed. "Yup,
& you are gonna be like Jackie Robinson, you will be the first black mayor
of East Chicago as long as you don't get hit by a bus." Street broke it
down like a shotgun." So what I better be careful crossing the street."
He had a shit-face grin as he talked. "Yup, because Medina can't beat you
in a caucus,” Street continued. Cars proved by & beeped at us.
