At
Street Level. Remember one time back when Father Steve was @ St. Mary's Church
& he sought me out? "Ricardo there is a massage parlor with
prostitutes a block & a half from my church. That is heresy," Father
Steve was very upset but this massage parlor with prostitutes had been on
Magoun for years. Bar on Main & Broadway also had prostitutes. “Whatta you
want me to do, Padre?" Street asked him. "Can't we talk to
somebody?" And we were off & running. That week talked to the sheriff
& told him about helping Father Steve & he said sure. The meeting never
came about & I gave Father Steve the update which was greeted with a shrug
by Padre. "The mayor & guy running against him don't care,” Padre
Gibson tells me so matter of factually.
At
Street Level. We fast forward to where we find George Pabey of East Chicago now.
Mayor Pabey held his town hall meeting inside O.L.G. Church & all his Big
Dogs were there. Chief Machuca, Medina, & Nava were there to a packed crowd.
This story is from a guy who was there & ultimately saved the day. They were
taking questions when a Mexican guy stood up to talk Mayor Pabey was facing the
crowd. "Mr. Mayor, when are you going to close that whorehouse on
Magoun?" My source is telling me. There were murmurs & whispers as
Machuca & the crew all looked @ each other. "Well, we already closed
the one on Broadway& Euclid." Mayor Pabey starts out. "And we gonna
close the one on Magoun," Pabey went on. There was a guy who videotaped
the meeting & gave me a copy of the tape.
At
Street Level. Street was anxious to let Padre take a look @ the video. The very
next day, padre had me on the phone. Some of his parishioners told him that the
massage parlor was still open. "Why don't you call the mayor's office
& tell them they haven't closed that place down?” Padre asked me. "I'm
on him for Gilbert Bonilla's Murder, padre. Why don't you call the mayor's
office?" Street tells Padre. And the following week, the massage parlor
was shut down & Padre Gibson was glad. "This heresy," he yelled
the first time we talked. Adios Padre Gibson.
