At Street Level. Flashback to 2008 & the
flood that hit Hammond & Munster. Mayor McDermott Jr. called for a town
hall meeting @ The Ophelia Steen Center. And everybody, & they grandma
showed up as people were hanging from the rafters etc. StreetWise was there on location
videotaping the meeting for Public Access Show in Hammond. One by one people
stepped up to the microphone & gave their name & address & then
proceeded to put their foot in McDermott's behind. The one common denominator
these people shared was the water they had in their houses. You could see the
smoke coming out of Mayor McDermott's ears as he looked out @ the crowd. Street
panned the crowd for footage that I would insert later on @ the studio. “If you
don't like the job, I'm doing then don't vote for me.” He told the crowd as he
became unglued. This was the most watched show on channel 21 in Hammond when we
broadcast the show. Then the mayor had some consultants go to Indy & moved
to abolish Public Access Television in Hammond. Then around February 2009 there
was no more Public Access & freedom of speech in Hammond. King Kong flexed
his muscles, you feel me? Remember Councilman Higgs brought the house down when
he spoke. “I got water in my basement too.” He told the crowd much to the
chagrin of the mayor.
P.S. Can you imagine a live show on Public
Access about N-Word in Hammond?
